Welcome to Mythology! My name is Emma Rose. I am going to be your teacher! To start the semester, we are going to be learning about the Norse Gods!
Lesson:
Let's start with a question. What are the Norse Gods? The Norse Gods are the people the Vikings believed in. We are going to start with the beginning. Literally. Like, the beginning of the world. Or, at least the way the vikings thought it was. Once upon a time, before the world was even made, there was nothing but a great gulf, full of twilight. To the North of this gulf lay the Home of Mist, a dark and dreary land with a river that never went dry. As the river met the cold blasts of wind, the river turned into blocks of ice. They piled up together and made great mountains of glittering ice. On the other side of the gulf lay the Home of Fire, a land of burning heat, guarded by a giant with a flaming sword and when he flashed it back and forth it sent a shower of sparks. These sparks landed on the mountains of ice and partly melted them and made thick steam that filled the rest of the space around them. This steam created a giant named Ymir, with a living, moving body and a cruel heart. Now Ymir was very hungry, but he could not find anything to eat. Finally, he found a great large cow whose udders flowed four great streams of milk that satisfied Ymir's hunger. We will finish the story on our next lesson.
Assignment: For your assignment, you get to draw a picture of Ymir the giant. Tell me what you think he would look like. Make sure to keep the picture because we're going to be using it in a future assignment. Send me a picture to everythingdoll@gmail.com. Your subject should be Mythology #1. Make sure to add your name at the bottom and have fun!
